Fratelli Meroni: Wines Born on the Slopes of Biasca

In Biasca, where the Riviera, Blenio and Leventina valleys meet, the Fratelli Meroni family farms just over a hectare and a half of vineyards. These are small, scattered plots that machines cannot reach — places where the vine still demands time, hands and patience.

The winery was founded in 1986 out of the passion of twin brothers Marco and Vincenzo Meroni. It began almost as a pastime, rooted in a family tradition of land, animals and vines. Today Vincenzo carries it forward with the same consistency, tending work that takes no shortcuts.

Viticulture here is truly heroic. The rows climb the slopes of the Riviera, Blenio and Leventina valleys; many vines are still trained on pergolas, following an old Sopraceneri tradition. Each parcel has its own exposure, its own toil and a character to respect.

The result is Ticino wines that speak first of all of where they come from. Granato and Cardo Rosso tell the story of Merlot from the valleys; Rampèda comes from vines over fifty years old above Loderio, in a vineyard reachable only on foot. With Le Pergole, a pure Merlot, the winery took second place at the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse 2018 in the category for Switzerland's best Merlots.

Alongside the reds, Cardo Bianco and Crudèll show a fresher, more surprising side of their work. Theirs is not a production built for volume, but a collection of wines shaped with care, vintage after vintage.

Why Sapori.world chose them

We chose Fratelli Meroni because they tell the story of a less obvious Ticino, far from shortcuts and close to the land.

Their bottles hold difficult vineyards, old pergolas, three alpine valleys and a family story carried forward with determination. These are wines that need little explanation: it's enough to know where they come from and imagine the work behind them.

This is what we want to bring to sapori.world: real producers, precise territories and flavours with something to tell.
