Barbarossa Riserva is Cantina alla Maggia's flagship label, dedicated to the medieval conqueror after whom the renowned restaurant at Castello del Sole is also named. A pure Merlot from the Sopraceneri vineyards, aged 24 months in second- and third-fill barriques, it shows medium-intensity ruby red with garnet highlights; the nose is slightly faded floral, with notes of cherry, blueberry and wild blackberries, a touch of oak and pleasant spice.

On the palate it is balanced and medium-bodied, with delicate tannin and a pleasant return of fruit and spice. Perfect with a Ticino board of cured meats and cheeses, braised beef ravioli with cacio e pepe sauce, or pork fillet in crust.
