Barbarossa Riserva is Cantina alla Maggia's flagship label, dedicated to the medieval conqueror after whom the renowned restaurant at Castello del Sole is also named. This 2021 vintage, a pure Merlot from the Sopraceneri vineyards aged 24 months in second- and third-fill barriques, shows medium-intensity garnet with brilliant ruby highlights; the nose is slightly faded floral, with notes of blueberry and wild blackberries, a touch of oak and a pleasant smoky note.

On the palate it is balanced and medium-bodied, with delicate, well-integrated tannin, a dry sip that does not overlook the typical softness of Merlot. A versatile wine, excellent with a Ticino board of cured meats and semi-aged cheeses, a juicy cheeseburger or pasta with beef ragù.
